How Long Does It Take to Master Brow Mapping?

I’m going to be truthful here and give you my honest opinion about this.

Mapping is a skill in itself aside from the brow techniques you are learning. When you’re taking specialty brow classes that involve permanent or semi permanent solutions such as Microblading, Powder Brows, or Nano Brows, this is the most important skill to master even more than the technique itself.

It requires learning how to balance a person’s face and understanding the structure of the brow bone. In this case, we use the Golden Ratio.

When you look at videos online, it may seem easy, but you don’t know how long it took that person to master the skill. It requires precision, dexterity, organizational skills, and patience because no two brow bones are alike. You have to be able to work on different structures and situations at all times.

Using rulers and templates is okay in the beginning, but you have to learn how to use the best tool in the world: your eyes. Being able to truly see the brow anatomy is what sets a great artist apart.

Sure, there are easy terms like the head, arch, and tail, but it’s deeper than that. You need to understand the medical anatomy of the brow bone, including areas like the supraorbital foramen.

I understand you just want to be a brow artist. But you should want to be a knowledgeable and trusted one.

How Long Does Mapping Take

If you’re new, brow mapping can take 30 minutes to an hour because you may have to make adjustments once the client sees it. But the overall mastery of the skill can take up to 12 months if you’re consistent and dedicated.

There are many ways to do brow mapping, but it’s best to start on paper before you advance to real people. All you need is the guide, a straight edge or ruler, and a good old fashioned pencil.
