When I first started my brow business many years ago, the key was to keep everything under $500 and that included my supplies and products. I had no existing clientele, a low budget, and a studio to pay for, so I definitely wanted to keep things minimal.
I rented my first suite in Sola Salon Studios almost 10 years ago. The rent was $310 per week. Yes, it was expensive even back then but I wanted to grow a studio without spending too much to get started. I knew I needed something cute and functional at the time.
You Don’t Need Luxury to Start
Still today, the same mindset applies. You don’t need the most luxurious things in the beginning. As long as you provide a comfortable, clean environment for your clients, you can do this on a limited budget.
There are so many suite rental opportunities available now. You can rent by the day, week, or month. You are no longer stuck in long leases like before. Keeping things simple will help you stay focused and keep your business running smoothly.
What I Recommend for New Artists
If you are just starting out, I recommend having a bed, a rolling stool, a tray to store your products on during the service, and good lighting. Lighting can be anything from a ring light to a moon lamp. Just make sure it’s adjustable and bright enough for precision work. If you are on a budget, stick with what works.
As your clientele grows, you can keep your original setup and upgrade over time with intention.
